JOIN OUR BOARD!
HELP US RE-IMAGINE OUR NON-PROFIT STRUCTURE
What do we say to the status quo? YUCK!
Rock Camp SLC is re-envisioning our structure and building a new board of directors to help us make this happen! We believe that there is room in our movement for everyone to be leaders, and we want to continue to empower leaders from the bottom-up, rather than replicate hierarchical systems. The most critical needs of the community come directly from the community itself and those who are working directly with community members.
We are looking for dedicated community leaders to help accomplish our mission: empowering girls, transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive youth from all backgrounds through music education, collaboration, and performance.
Board members will be selected based on their ability to bring a diversity of lived experiences, perspectives, and community connections to the board, and their commitment to helping Rock Camp SLC broaden its impact on the community through sustainable growth. Our current bylaws stipulate that board members are elected for two-year terms, which may be renewed for up to three consecutive terms.
Applications to join the board of directors are due by February 28, 2025. New board members will be selected by March 14, 2025 for terms that begin April 1, 2025. Our typical board member term length is two years.
Do you want to help us without joining the board? Our board members will be forming collaboration circles to help us get community members involved. Join our mailing list to stay connected!
Purpose of Board Membership:
To act as a voting member to develop policies for the operation of Rock Camp SLC (RCSLC)
To assist the current RCSLC organizers in radically re-imagining our bylaws to define the role of the board and create policies to transition formally into a worker self-directed non-profit business model. Organizational bylaws can be tools to create equitable, inclusive, and democratic spaces for collaboration. They can also be jargon-laden documents that give power to only the few people who understand them. By making bylaws accessible, participatory, and transparent we can transform them into tools of the people.
To help develop a sustainable organizational culture that values creativity, collaboration, self-care, and mutual aid.
To delegate management to a collective of self-governing workers and provide oversight to ensure that the self-management system is functioning to advance the best interests of the nonprofit.
To assist organizers in creating a short and long-term strategy and vision for RCSLC under this new model.
To provide the organization with the resources needed to serve the organization’s community members
Individual Board Member’s Responsibilities:
Attend full board meetings regularly (approximately five meetings/year)
Plan and attend smaller committee meetings with non-board members
Respond to emails and texts quickly and thoughtfully for issues that come up between meetings
Consider other points of view, make constructive suggestions, and help the organization make decisions that benefit RCLSC’s communities
Serve on at least one board committee
Represent RCSLC to individuals, the public, and other organizations in a positive and professional manner
Support RCSLC through attendance of special events and activities
Work with RCSLC organizers to identify revenue sources
Assume board leadership roles when nominated and elected
Keep the organizers informed of relevant community concerns
Maintain the confidentiality of board discussions
Other duties as adopted together in our restructuring process
If shaking up the status quo appeals to you, please apply to join our board of directors by clicking “Apply” below and filling out our board application no later than February 28, 2025 If you have questions before applying, please email info@rockcampslc.org
